I hated my uncle
For murdering the mimosa
Behind his mother’s house.
The timeless woman
Glued Victorian ladies
To pink tile walls,
While I fantasized
That momma wasn’t a Yankee
And we weren’t garbage
Daddy brought back
To her mountains.
